INGE VERACHTERT

EXPRESSIVE CHARACTER

WARM AND QUIET WORK WITH A POWERFUL INTERPLAY OF LINES, SOMETIMES TAUT, SOMETIMES PLAYFUL.

Inge Verachtert (1969), living in Gierle, studied visual arts at the Heilig-Grafinstituut in Turnhout. She gave up her job as a kindergarten teacher in 2008 to fully concentrate on painting with acrylic paint.

The dialogue between interior and art, that is what Inge Verachtert is all about. Since she took up the brush again a few years ago after a long sabbatical, she has been painting with a passion that she never experienced during her fine arts education.

"In my studio in Gierle, I am driven to paint almost every day, in peace and quiet, full of passion, with a view of the garden, away from the world."

RECOGNIZABLE SIGNATURE

Inge bases herself on lines, shapes and colours from various interiors and landscapes. Her love for nature and its surroundings are often a source of inspiration.

Lines from three-dimensional spaces end up on the two-dimensional surface to end up abstract. The perception of form, structure and colour creates a specific rhythm thanks to the mutual influence.

The paintings may be decorative in nature, but because of their multi-layered expressive character they stand completely alone.

The many colours in the underpainting, but also the scratching away of layers of paint, bring tension in the painting. By incorporating plaster, wood, sand or fabric, Verachtert adds even more rhythm to her work, giving it a recognisable signature. And where she initially stuck to earth tones and white nuances, she now goes for bright, colourful compositions, usually tone on tone and hyper-stylised.

Ultimately, Inge wants to achieve a warm and peaceful work with a powerful interplay of lines, sometimes tight, sometimes playful. Occasionally Inge Verachtert paints figuratively, illustrating her technical virtuosity.

Her well-known "little ladder" in almost all her works is also a playful and recognisable signature!
